Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 isn't perfect, but it's the best dictation software available. We don't find this upgrade necessary for the most basic dictation, although new features may benefit heavily accented English speakers and those who rely heavily on voice commands.

The improvements of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred version 8 over the prior versions are significant. Recognition accuracy is noticeably better and the software's ability to recognize speech are greatly improved. In August 2006, version 9 was released, and offers even greater accuracy. Ultimately, accomplished typists may not notice much improvement in production by using speech recognition - but for the keyboard-challenged, speech recognition technology is a vast improvement over hunt-and-peck typing.

Offers an abundance of help features, tools and resources with well-done tutorials accessible directly from the Dragon Bar. Common commands are available by simple voice command. Dragon's macro creation tools for dictating and recalling text and graphics, and the ability to phrase commands in a variety of ways, are stellar components that are crucial to achieving optimum accuracy. As with other versions, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Legal 9 includes a high-quality, noise-canceling microphone. I have no hesitation recommending Dragon NaturallySpeaking Legal 9 for legal professionals looking to use technology to its fullest, especially those who dislike typing, those who dictate well and frequently in their practices, and those with physical limitations or disabilities. As far as speech recognition software, Dragon is the de facto standard, representing the best in state-of-the-art dictation software.
