Verdical, Trial Director and Sanction
Does Verdical Improve Trial Presentation?, by
Peter Phaneuf.
Verdical is trying to be too many things to too many people. When other companies like Microsoft or Adobe create software suites, they design and develop them with a very high level of integration so all the features and functionality are consistent and work well together. I think to convince people to use Verdical instead of Concordance/iCONECT or CT Summation/iBlaze, Verdict Systems will need to make a better database first, and then I am sure people will be willing to switch since the presentation module is nicely integrated.

TimeMap 4: Timeline Graphing For Lawyers, by
David Narkiewicz.
TimeMap from CaseSoft (www.casesoft.com) has always been one of the best timeline-graphing tool available to lawyers. If you want to graphically show events that have occurred on several dates or at many different times on a particular date, I don’t believe there is a better tool than TimeMap 4.

Using Technology To Be Better, Faster And More Cost-Effective Than the Competition, by
Rich Vasquez and Muffy Mallory.
As paperless initiatives in courtrooms spill over into the litigation practice, and vice versa, this collaboration among law firms, software providers and the court should become the standard. There is a clear premium on developing this type of synergy between law firms and their service providers as they discover and adopt technology that will help them be better, faster, and more cost effective than the competition. In the final analysis, we are
pleased to report that our three tiered litigation team provided our firm with a competitive edge in a highly complex litigation; and in our business, that really counts.

SmartDraw
TechnoReview: SmartDraw Legal Solution, by
Jill Bauerle.
Every once in a while, a product comes along that creates a new category in the legal market. The SmartDraw Legal Solution is such a product - the only illustration software designed from the ground up for lawyers. Given its success, competitors will likely surface, but for the time being, if you need to translate legalese into charts and diagrams, the SmartDraw Legal Solution merits a serious look given its loyal and growing user base.

TrialDirector Version 5
Review: TrialDirector Version 5, by
Ted Brooks.
TrialDirector, when I first saw version 5, I was amazed at the difference from previous
versions. If you’ve used TrialDirector before, you’re going to like it. If you’ve never used TrialDirector, you’re going to love it. Can an average attorney or paralegal spend some
time learning to use TrialDirector 5 and go to trial? The answer is yes. Other options include hiring a Trial Consultant or Technician to assist with the preparation and/or presentation, should the matter warrant it.

Still Using Version 1. 0? Here's What's New in Trial Presentation Software, by
Timothy Piganelli.
TrialDirector: One of TrialDirector's strongest features is its report generation functionality. Using this tool, one can generate a report of key exhibits with a thumbnail of the exhibit, a bar code for using a bar code reader and just about any description you could want. In general, you can't go wrong with inData's TrialDirector Suite.
TimeMap: TimeMap has the ability to create PDFs of timeline graphs. You don't need to own a full Acrobat license. There's even a "PDF & Email" option right on TimeMap 4's toolbar. When TimeMap 4 creates a PDF, it goes so far as to add a bookmark for each fact, thereby making it easy to navigate to different events in the timeline. For the price, this tool is a no-brainer. If you're still using Version 1.0, you need to look at TimeMap 4.0.

TrialDirector
TrialDirector 5.1, by
Brett Burney.
TrialDirector 5.1 features a mature interface, easy-to-find feature set and effortless drag-and-drop functionality. Most users will never need the array of additional features that tend to get in the way. For example, in presentation mode you can add stamps, draw circles and squares, preprogram layers and change the color of the pen tool with graphics tools; however, most users just zoom into a section of text and highlight it in yellow. Another feature that I don't see many people using is the color-coding system for issues in transcripts. TrialDirector 5.1 is one of the best products for litigators and other legal professionals to use for displaying documents and video testimony in a courtroom for official hearing.

SmartDraw
SmartDraw Legal Edition, by
Brett Burney.
SmartDraw Legal Edition has an intuitive click-and-drag interface and a look similar to Microsoft Office 2007. An incredible selection of hundreds of templates allows you to create professional crime scene diagrams, accident reconstruction diagrams, legal flowcharts and timelines, and perform other graphic chores. The ability to export the final product to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Corel WordPerfect, PDF and JPEG is as easy as clicking a button. I recommend SmartDraw Legal to easily create professional-looking diagrams and graphics that can be used in a variety of applications such as Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.

TrialDirector
TrialDirector 5, by
Mary Girsch-Bock.
It’s easy to navigate, and combines transcripts, video and documents using one user-friendly interface. As long as you use Internet 6.0, none. Every task I attempted worked smoothly, with no problems at all. I absolutely recommend it. TrialDirector is a terrific program designed to save time and produce a professionally completed presentation. An easy-to-use interface combined with a top-notch help feature will have you up and running the day you install it.

Sanction
Sanction v2.8, by
Kim Plonsky.
Extremely powerful, versatile and user-friendly with Windows-like interface. Has clear and useful help files and user manual. Broad range of functionality, with both default and customizable features and options. Outstanding trial presentation, video clip creation, exhibit numbering and transcript tools. Affordable pricing. The only problem I experienced was that it didn’t recognize CaseMap, a third-party application that integrates with Sanction, on my computer. I could find no setting to manually force the integration. (Sanction recognized CaseMap after installing the software on a different PC.) Sanction gets my wholehearted recommendation based on its combined features and its relatively low cost.
