Clickfree Automatic Backup
Clickfree Automatic Backup, by
Milton Hooper.
Clickfree is convenient and easy to use for standalone computers or networked systems without a backup solution. But there are no scheduled backups and lightweight design of the device could lead to it being easily lost or damaged. It's better than having no backup, and affordable for everyone

Acrobat.com, Buzzword, ConnectNow, Share, MyFiles and Create PDF
Acrobat.com (Beta), by
Kim Plonsky.
Innovative, clean and crisp user interface. Surprisingly fast for an online application. Backup of work occurs behind the scenes every few minutes, and every time a document is saved in Buzzword, the prior version automatically is saved. It’s easy to learn and support is plentiful. There are no spreadsheet or presentation programs. Oddly, Buzzword imports most common file formats, but not PDF. Navigation between Adobe .com’s modules is clumsy, which can lead to repeatedly being requested to sign in. Although still in beta and so too soon to recommend it to legal professionals for business use, I think it’s worth checking out, and I would not be surprised if others, like me, have at least one use in mind for it already.

Mobiliti, EzOpenBackup Plus!, HP’s Media Vault
Backing Up, by
Andrew C. Simpson.
The secret to a successful backup strategy is to deploy multiple layers of backups such that each layer best addresses one of the key goals set forth above.
Your backup strategy is of absolutely no value if it does not work when you need it—after the catastrophe. The only way you can ensure that your data will be there for you after the loss is to test your backups before the calamity.

iConect, ImageDepot, Lextranet, Lexbe
SaaSsy Litigation Support, by
Brett Burney.
With Lexbe users can actually upload their own documents to their databases without having to send them somewhere or have them converted. Lexbe can even OCR-scan PDF documents as they get uploaded. Lexbe can also easily handle electronic documents from Microsoft Word, Corel Wordperfect, Outlook, etc.). Once documents are uploaded into Lexbe, you can tag "key" documents, apply Bates numbering, add notes and even link documents to facts listed elsewhere in the case. Clients access Lexbe through a Web browser, and all traffic is encrypted and protected by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Lexbe ensures the confidentiality of the documents you store on their servers, and they also create daily backups of all work done on the system.
ImageDepot focuses a little more on managing electronic documents, as opposed to scanned (or "imaged") paper files. ImageDepot's interface is also very easy to get around and provides simple search functions for documents in the database. ImageDepot keeps an audit log to show you when reviewers do their work and when documents are downloaded or e-mailed from the system.
iConect and Lextranet are definitely viable options for enormous litigation databases at larger firms, but Lexbe and ImageDepot provide the essential tools for smaller, more numerous litigation matters that require a functional database review tool.
